A friend asked me to make some upcycled denim laundry bags for her to give as high school graduation gifts. I was reluctant at first because I knew I would have to stop to figure the whole thing out before I could even start. But . . . the more I got to thinking about it, the more I liked the idea and voila! I have laundry bags! Once done, I was kind of excited about them. I showed them to my kids who assured me they would have used them when they went off to college (or wherever) so I'm putting them out here.
I really like the idea of giving these as graduation gifts or as a back to school item. They will certainly be as unique as they are useful, not to mention sturdy.
The bag is made from recycled denim (of course!) and has a round shape that was inspired my husband's old U.S. Navy duffle bag. The bottom is 12" in diameter (about 30.48 cm) and has a circumference of about 38" (96.52 cm). It stands about 27" tall (68.58 cm). The bag has a simple soft nylon rope drawstring style closure. There's a pocket on the front which will be handy for a roll of quarters or whatever else needs to go in the pocket of a laundry bag. The bag is not lined, but I do serge the seams so there are no raw edges to fray or unravel. There is enough room to have them monogrammed (I haven't launched into that yet) if you wanted to personalize it.
Guaranteed to be distinguishable from the other laundry bags in the dorm!
