Highly desirable children's book, this is the 1980s hardcover reprint edition of the 1904 original, illustrated in black and white, a hardcover book in very good vintage condition, no underlining, odors, or other problems noted; dust jacket has some tiny tears and tatters to the edges as shown in photo. After photographing, we placed the jacket in a clear archival cover to protect it from further damage, so it will come to you well protected.
"Dandelion Cottage" by Carroll Watson Rankin, is the charming story of four young girls who rent a derelict cottage for the summer by weeding its unkempt, dandelion filled yard for the owners. They spend weeks refurbishing it and have some funny little adventures along the way.
The story is set in the pioneer town of Marquette, Michigan, and is based on the author's real life daughter and her friends. Dandelion Cottage, at the time of publication, still stood on East Arch Street in Marquette. Carroll Rankin was born in 1864 and published her first short story at the age of 11. She went on to write many articles for magazines, and authored 10 books for children.
I love old children's books, and this one made delightful reading on a rainy weekend, with its gentle humor and spunky young heroines who tackle remodeling the cottage with creativity and a willingness to work hard and learn new skills.
